James River offers excellent smallmouth bass fly fishing. The James is characterized by runs, boulder dropoffs, and good bank structure that hides smallies. There are large numbers of large smallmouth (14-18 inches) that are often taken on the fly rod.

With over five inches of rain in the area the river will be unfishable for 7 to 10 days.Check the spring creek and tailwater reports and go trout fishing

As the river dropped from last weeks high and muddy conditions-it has left the banks and ramps layered in mud.Use caution when entering and exiting the river as the mud is slick.Go with heavy sink tips with a 6-8-foot florocarbon leader.Crayfish and schulpin patterns fished on the bottom should produce a fish or two at this time of year.It looks like seasonal tempertures this upcoming week-get out and enjoy the river!

Hey All-Just getting started here and want to post reports so you'll know whats happening in my part of the world. Sorry but the James is high and off color. The smallmouth prior to this had moved to the deeper holes and slots. Crayfish and schulpin patterns had been producing fish. Fish them deep ans slow!
